ABOUT ME
So who am I?
Founder and music enthusiast
My name is Sonia Purani and I am a student at Manhasset High School.
​
I have been a music student for 13 years playing Cello and singing Soprano. Within this time I have attended county and state-wide music festivals and competitions, and, as I like to think, put smiles on people's faces.
​
Outside of music I love to play Badminton and ice skate with my friends. I like to run with my dog around the house (my parents love it... not). In school, I am a member of numerous clubs. One of my favorites is the school news channel club in which I am in charge of the podcasting division!
Why Behind the Note
​
Music therapy is the use of music to regulate feelings and emotions. It is found to be super effective because it can be extremely personalized, and cheap.
​
Music therapy is important to me because I constantly find myself surrounded by it. I see myself and others listening to music to calm down... quite literally music therapy all day every day.
​
Our mission is to educate those on the benefits of music therapy, and to spread music ourselves!

Volunteer Opportunity
For Manhasset High-school Musicians
In the Summer and winter of 2023, the head conductor of orchestras Caroline Shyr and I are taking willing musicians to perform music in local homes and rehabilitation centers. ​

Our Partnerships
Manifest magazine is an online magazine that acts as an outlet for Gen-z and student creatives through art. Whether it be visual art, writing or film, Manifest aims to build a community where art is used to express an individual's state of mind. Focusing on the topics of stress and academic or non-academic burnout, Manifest connects people with different perspectives on similar experiences and carves out spaces for them to decompress through creative processes.
